Benefits of Running a Blog

By Kovich On October 5, 2011 Under Blogging

Adding a blog to your corporate website can be an excellent way to broaden your online presence. Blogging has been popular since it’s breaking appearance just over 10 years ago. However, in recent years, ‘business’ blogs have found themselves becoming increasingly popular with companies and organizations (in many different markets) trying to reach out to their audience on different levels.

Of course, you’ve got the likes of Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms – but nothing quite has the impact of a blog – and there are several reasons why. First of all, a blog is personal. You aren’t (well, not necessarily) hosting it on someone else’s site… it’s yours and your customers/audience will see that. This can help to improve your image by showing that your company has a unified online presence, in addition to being available on third-party sites.

Secondly, there’s no limit when it comes to the design and adding content. You can post whatever you want to impress and tempt your customers – keeping them more engaged. Try posting updates about new products, services and developments. Release special offers and coupons on your blog to reward customers who take the time to check it out. The list is endless.

For a business, a blog is a sort of ‘sub-website’ – it acts as an advertising platform – almost like a stepping stone between where your customer is located and your site. It’s really up to you what you put on your blog, but as I mentioned above, there are so many different services available online that could help you out, in addition to whatever ideas you can come up with on your own.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is just communicate with your customers – ask them what they want to see/receive from you – and give it to them. It’s a place where you can talk on a personal level with your customers. You could even accept comments or add a discussion forum to your blog to see what your customers are interested in. Try to incorporate this into the service(s) you provide.

It’s important that when you do set up a blog, that its design follows that of your main site. If it doesn’t, it just won’t look right – it will be a misfit, which comes off as unprofessional and careless.

So, if you decide to take the step and make a blog for your business, ensure you keep it simple, keep it targeted, and use it wisely as a special platform to better communicate with your audience. Ensure that you optimize it properly, give it a neat, easy-to-navigate layout, and keep the design in line with that of your existing site (to maintain continuity). Then, feel free to explore different options and see what works best for your specific case. The possibilities are endless!
