Tips for Successful Blogging

By Kovich On December 30, 2009 Under Blogging

Blogs are considered to be a popular means of communication with people around the world. Blogs have been around for a long time, but often were known under other names such as journals, chronicles, and editorials and were written in just a few select genres. Now, with the craze catching up fast, movie stars, celebrities, and the general population are now blogging and chatting about their daily routines, their interests, and what’s new in their lives. In more definitive terms, a blog is basically an online journal. They were originally meant to be informative and descriptive, but are now used not only for fun but for business purposes as well.

Regardless of what you’re blogging about, there are a few tips that can be followed to help ensure your blog is attractive and draws in traffic. Let’s take a look:

1. Always Be On the Lookout for New Ideas: A blog is typically a diary that portrays your insights. You can blog about virtually anything, but if you keep up with ‘new ideas’ you’ll have an easier time finding dedicated visitors for your blog and you can easily strike up conversation with them. Keep your mind open and ears listening to catch some interesting news for your blog.

2. Start Big, Finish Bigger: This is the mantra to use if you want to keep your readers hooked on your article. Try to maintain the visitor’s interest by putting small tidbits of eye-catching information throughout your post to encourage them to read until the end.

3. Provide Quality Information: The information provided on your blog(s) should be credible. In other words, if you are expressing your own personal opinion, make sure that is known and not to be confused with factual, proven information. Furthermore, ensure that they are both interesting and informative so that your visitors can refer to them later. If you are stating information from an external source, confirm the validity of the information before posting it.

4. Provide Help: Blog followers are very happy to receive advice from field experts. So, if you can offer professional help, do spare a moment by replying to comments and emails.

5. Provide Links: If you are providing information on your blog, try to provide links to the original source. This helps maintain your credibility and gives a broader prospect to your blog. Plus, this would help readers find additional information on the topic.

6. Bad Ideas: While I’ve been listing things you should do, I’d like to cover a few things you shouldn’t do:

• Don’t argue about a subject if you aren’t confident in your position.
• Never publish content from other sources without their knowledge or permission.
• Remain cool if conflict sparks among your blog readers. It eventually always does.
• This advice is not set in stone. It’s not the end of the road. Research your topics and see what works for you.
• Do not fill your blog with useless comments or elements.

7. The Last Tip: This is probably the most important! Don’t be shy or afraid to ‘Experiment’. Experimenting with new topics, new post types, and new tones is a simple way to keep your readers hooked to your blog and coming back time and time again.

    Hi:

Thank you for the tips regarding successful blogging.

However, that said, I am a simple cabinet maker who would love to just be able to put my material on the web so the public could see my work.

I have spent five years doing nothing but refining my design and bench skills.

But, during that time, it seems others have been thinking about how to use the net to do who knows what. I don’t understand what they are saying.

Anyway, I would just like to find a place where someone would start with step one and just show me how to do some simple web site that makes sense for my business.

Right now, I know where the on button is (I guess that’s a switch) for my computer, and that’s about it.
