Using Twitter to Gain Traffic

Twitter Bird It’s one of those methods that is talked about a lot: using micro-blogging to gain traffic to your website. Some people have wondered what the best way of doing this is, others wonder how it actually works. In this post, I am going to explain to you what the methods of getting traffic through twitter are, and how you can use them to your advantage when attempting to promote your websites.

Question 1: What is Twitter?
Twitter is a microblogging system which is based around the question “What are you doing?” Every time you send a “Tweet”, your “followers” can see what you have written. Also, people searching twitter may come upon your latest “Tweet”.

Question 2: I NEED FOLLOWERS!
No, you do not actually need to build up followers for the method I am going to show you. Although, having followers does help a ton. It doesn’t change many of the variables I am going to discuss.

Question 3: What’s the method?
The method to getting traffic with twitter is very simple. But, it needs to be implemented correctly. First, let me explain what happens every time you send a tweet that may contain a url to your site.

You Tweet -> Bots Read It -> They Post to Other Sites via RSS

It’s really that simple! Now, instead of your tweet just being on your twitter page, the bot has now posted it on their website, which could have any range of PageRanks. They have essentially given you a free link from their site!

Is that it?
No, if I was to stop and say that was my whole method, this wouldn’t be worth reading! You still need the end part of the method. This will not work unless people are “retweeting” what you have written. “Retweeting” duplicates the amount of times the bot is going to pick up your link.

How do I get Retweets?
There are two ways. When your followers read your tweet, they may click the *new* retweet button that was recently added by Twitter. The other way is something that you need to implement. You may have noticed a button on some blogs that says ‘ReTweet’. If you place one of those buttons on your site you give your users an opportunity to share the content of your site with their followers. Their friends then see your site.

Tweet -> Bot -> Site Retweet -> Bot -> Site

It turns into a never ending cycle, which all starts with your just one tweet…

Where can I get the button?
The button can be installed onto your site from here.

Does this method Really work?
If this method didn’t work, I wouldn’t be wasting my time telling you about it! :]
